Can I still move home during the Tier 5 lockdown?
The prime minister Boris Johnson announced last night that the fight against Covid-19 in England has been escalated to Tier 5, with the PM ordering the closure of all schools and non-essential shops for at least the next six weeks. The latest lockdown comes amid a sharp rise in coronavirus cases all over the country, and concerns that the NHS is at risk of being overwhelmed.
In conjunction with the announcement, the government has updated the official guidance website with comprehensive information on what you can and cannot do during the national lockdown. This includes specific confirmation that that buying, selling and letting activities can continue during the new lockdown in England and that estate agents, as well as removal firms, can still operate by going inside homes.
Government advice on moving home:
You can still move home. People outside your household or support bubble should not help with moving house unless absolutely necessary.
Estate and letting agents and removals firms can continue to work. If you are looking to move, you can go to property viewings.
Follow the national guidance on moving home safely, which includes advice on social distancing, letting fresh air in, and wearing a face covering.
